Greetings, and welcome to the website of Virtual Carrier Air Wing One!

We are a virtual squadron that uses Eagle Dynamic's Digital Combat Simulator to emulate combat flying in the modern military aviation world. We simulate naval operations as a naval Strike Squadron as closely as possible within the framework of the simulation and the constraints of using a flight combat simulation, and maintain a robust library of documents and procedures taken directly from United States NATOPs manuals. The majority of our flight operations consists of training, weekly mission flights, and mid- to long-term campaigns that take place on the Persian Gulf map, the Syria map, and the Caucasus map, with the intention of including the Marianas map when our campaigns finally head that way.

Unlike some other virtual squadrons, we consider ourselves more of a military simulation, or "milsim," group than a simple combat flight simulation wing or other more casual simulation group. Our flying is heavily dependent upon real world carrier procedures, and specific radio procedures, communications, and discipline is important to what we do. Like any online community our members come from all walks of life and we enjoy having a good time, but when we're in the virtual skies we take what we're doing seriously.

Recruitment

We're always interested in having new pilots join us, so if you are here looking for a virtual wing to join, by all means click through our website and see what we have to offer. We do have a training requirement prior to joining one of our line squadrons, however, and due to the number of instructor pilots we have recruitment is generally only open when we have positions available for training. You must be able to commit to flying a minimum of two dedicated flights per week after you complete your training - our regularly scheduled flights are Wednesday and Saturday 7pm US Eastern Time for VMFA-115. As such, be aware that if you're interested and our current open recruit positions are filled that you may need to be put on a waiting list. Shown below is our current recruitment status:

Our Join Us! page contains all the information you need to get started with us, including our Digital Combat Simulator module requirements, what we require as far as head tracking equipment and software (to better facilitate situation awareness and enhanced capabilities), and member profile information, and our Training and Flying pages provide more information on our training program and what we do, and how we do it, when we fly. In addition, it is important to keep in mind that while we are a carrier wing, our primary aircraft is the F/A-18C Hornet - many of us do fly other aircraft, but the Hornet is Virtual Carrier Air Wing One's primary aircraft.

Our Squadrons

Virtual Carrier Air Wing One currently has two active squadrons. These include VMFAT-101 (the "Sharp Shooters"), and VMFA-115 (the "Silver Eagles"). Each of these squadrons has a functional purpose within Virtual Carrier Air Wing One, as stated below:

VMFAT-101 Sharp Shooters
VMFAT-101 is our training squadron. All new recruits are assigned to VMFAT-101 while they go through our training program. You will be assigned a MODEX, which will be your permanent callsign identifier while you are in VCAW-1. VMFAT-101's callsign is "Shooter," which the recruit will refer to themselves as while flying training missions, and particularly during training segments where they are leading the flight while being observed by their instructor pilot; for example Shooter (MODEX), Shooter 210. VMFAT-101 skins are provided - each recruit selects a random 101 aircraft for each flight, no specific aircraft assignments are set.

VFMA-115 Silver Eagles
VFMA-115 is our first line sqaudron, in which most of our Canadian, American, and South American members are placed. Once a recruit from these time zones completes training, they are transferred from VMFAT-101 to the Silver Eagles where they are now a full fledged member of the Wing. Assignment to VMFA-115 comes with an added bonus of a personalised aircraft skin based upon the pilot's aircraft ID number, and the ability to participate in our Campaign scenarios and flights. VFMA-115 Silver Eagles callsign is Blade (MODEX) example - Blade 200.

Thank you for looking at our site, and extend our warmest welcome to you! Feel free to have a look through the website and get a better idea of who we are and what we do. If you're just looking, that's great - we update the site regularly with new screenshots and info on our flights. If you're here because you're looking to potentially join us, great! We're always looking for more pilots interested in joining our ranks. Check through our site and see how we conduct our flights, and when you're ready head to the Join Us! link to see what our requirements are.

Thanks again, and welcome!
